change is within reach

Do you bury your feelings and hide from a painful past, trying to move forward—only to perpetuate the same patterns that keep you stuck?

Perhaps you’re adept at reading the subtleties of others’ moods and their unspoken needs, yet feel unmatched when it comes to understanding and connecting to yourself.

Despite your best efforts at self-improvement, you again find the echo chamber of self-criticism and internalized shame resound the loudest. You may feel that belongingness has a price and struggle to know who you are beneath the mask you wear.

Wherever you’re starting from, change is possible, and I’m here to help.

how i can help

Our work begins with a collaborative alliance where we'll pinpoint your unique needs and outline the direction of therapy. From there, I help you resolve painful histories, heal emotional wounds, and find new possibilities where you feel stuck in defeating patterns.

While my approach is deeply relational, I help you connect with the relationship most neglected: the one with yourself—moving beyond internalized shame toward your truest, most authentic self.

As insight into the layers beneath your pain deepens, so also your freedom to choose expands. I'll help you understand, regulate, and process your emotions so they become a compass pointing you toward your truths and desired directions. Throughout, I draw on evidence-based modalities to support meaningful, enduring change.

Dr. Andrea Cooper, Ph.D.

I'm Dr. Cooper, a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in Columbus, Ohio. My extensive training and clinical experience equip me to help clients navigate a wide range of psychological concerns, life transitions, and interpersonal challenges. Whether the work involves healing from complex trauma, navigating life after immersion in fundamentalist religion, or untangling from painful relational dynamics, I offer a safe, nonjudgmental space and aim to empower clients through deepening insight into the factors maintaining their difficulties.

My clinical training across New York City and beyond shaped how I see clients—as whole people, deeply intertwined with the cultural contexts, intersectional identities, and social systems through which they relate. My doctoral research focused on the psychological impact of women's experiences disaffiliating from Protestant fundamentalist religion, which continues to inform my work with religious trauma today.
